The Timberwolf/Pathfinder Backpacking Trip to Enchanted Rock Natural Area State Park is upon us. This is going to be an excellent opportunity for your scout to get some hands on experience packing in their own gear and hiking into a primitive site.
We will be staying Friday and Saturday nights at the Buzzard’s Roost Primitive Group Site. This area is designed for adventure, hiking and nature. Scouts will be expected to hike in .71 miles carrying in all the gear necessary for the weekend ahead, along with a night and morning’s allotment of water. Additional water will be brought in by leaders and more will be obtained by the scouts on the hikes throughout the weekend.
The cost of the trip is $25 per person and can be paid via Paypal using the email@example.com email address. This event is open to all Timberwolves and Pathfinders from the 183rd, 7th and 96th BPSA groups. All leaders/parents wishing to attend can only do so if they do not have a scout in attendance as this is an opportunity for our kids to stretch their wings pseudo solo-like.
Scouts are asked to report to the Buzzard’s Roost parking area within the park no later than 30 minutes before sundown on Friday April 27, and they can arrive as early as 4:00 p.m. All scouts will be met at the parking area by at least one leader. Their gear will be reviewed for weight and necessity. Extra gear will be available for any scout in need. Once given the green light the scout will be sent on the trail to Buzzard’s Roost where they will be met by a leader and instructed accordingly.
We intend to hike to the summit of Enchanted Rock one day and hike the 4 mile Loop Trail the next. Your scout can expect to hike approximately 11 miles over the course of the weekend from arrival at the parking lot Friday night to pick up on Sunday afternoon. Your scout will get the opportunity to observe, study and learn about the flora and fauna local to the state park and surrounding areas. We will discuss the geology or the area and your scout will take part in activities focusing on navigation, first aid and other acquired skills from the last eight months of scouts.
